Air China has taken delivery of its first A320neo family aircraft, powered by Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower® Geared Turbofan (GTF) engine. The announcement was made by Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp., along with the confirmation that this is the first aircraft of the type to be delivered to a Chinese operator from the Airbus Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Tianjin, China.

The delivery comes after the announcement that Pratt & Whitney have signed an agreement with Air China Limited and Shenzhen Airlines for 60 A320neo family aircraft, powered by the Pratt & Whitney GTF engine. The contract with Air China includes a 15-year EngineWise™ Fleet Management Program.

Doug Cai, president of Pratt & Whitney China, defined the delivery as a significant milestone for the company. He also expressed his firm belief that the GTF engine will continue to deliver the promised fuel savings and reduction in the noise and carbon dioxide emissions.
