Next year, Airbus will augment the performance characteristics of its A220 aircraft. The airframer announced its plans to increase the maximum take-off weight (MTOW) and lengthen the range of its A220 family, formerly the Bombardier CSeries.
The European airframer will increase the fleet’s MTOW by approximately 5,000 pounds, allowing operators to carry additional fuel. This will increase the planes’ payload range by nearly 520 miles.
Airbus has received about 530 orders for the A220-100 and A220-300. Both variants entered into commercial service in 2016. As of the end of April 2019, SWISS is the largest operator of the type with 28 aircraft in service.
