EasyJet is about to conclude a deal for €40 million ($46.4 million) for acquiring certain assets from insolvent Air Berlin, that include part of its operations at Berlin Tegel Airport.
The agreement is pending regulatory approvals and is expected to be finalized in December this year. The deal will include entering leases for up to 25 Airbus A320s, around 1,000 crew and other assets, including slots.
Starting operations at Berlin Tegel Airport will enable easyJet to operate short-haul services for passengers traveling between Germany and the rest of the world. In combination with the carrier’s existing base at Berlin Schönefeld it will mean that the airline will become the leading one in Berlin.
EasyJet promised to announce the new routes and services it is going to offer after the acquisition at a later stage.
