Fraport AG, the airport operating company which runs the mega-airport in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, released a report detailing its passenger traffic in the first half of 2019. Between January and June 2019, Frankfurt welcomed over 33.6 million fliers, up 3% year-on-year. Aircraft movements grew by 2.1%.
In June alone, 6.6 million passengers passed through the airport, up 3.4% from the same month of 2018. The facility set a single-day passenger traffic record on Sunday, June 30th, when more than 241,000 travelers departed, transited, or arrived there. This exceeded the previous record—set in the busy summer vacation season last July—by an increment of more than 3,000 passengers.
According to Stefan Schulte, the chairman of the Fraport executive board, higher summer passenger volumes challenge the airport, but it has managed to conduct its operations with far more stability than it did in 2018.
