Garuda Indonesia Withdraws from Boeing Order
Garuda Indonesia has made a recent announcement regarding its aircraft order with Boeing for a total of 49 Boeing 737 MAX 8s.
According to I Gusti Ngurah Askhara Danadiputra, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Garuda Indonesia will be cancelling its order for the Boeing aircraft. The deal was signed in 2015, when the carrier acquired a total of 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. However, following recent issues with the aircraft after a fatal accident the aircraft has been suffering from uncertainty regarding its safety, leading to a number of operators grounding the planes.
Garuda Indonesia’s Chief Executive Officer was sent a letter to Boeing’s Chief Executive Officer to inform him of the company’s decision. Unfortunately, Garuda’s passengers have provided feedback that they are not comfortable with the safety of the aircraft and the company cannot afford to lose customers’ trust.
