Hainan Airlines inaugurated a new service between Chongqing (CKG) and New York (JFK) on October 20. This is the ninth North American destination for the carrier. The airline also plans to connect Chengdu with New York as of October 26.

Sun Jianfeng, Hainan Airlines President, confirmed that the company is the only carrier to connect the US East Coast with the two cities of Chongqing and Chengdu via non-stop flights. The two new services to New York represent the 13th and the 14th non-stop transpacific routes for Hainan airlines. These routes are expected to enhance the cultural, economic and political collaboration between the two countries and strengthen the capacity of Chongqing and Chengdu as key global economic centers.

The service between Chongqing and New York will be operated twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays on the 787-8s carriers until October 29. As of October 30 the Wednesday flight will be moved to Monday and the passengers will enjoy the larger 787-9 aircraft.

The two new Hainan airline’s services mean that not JFK is connected to six destinations non-stop in China, with Beijing (Air China), Shanghai Pudong (China Eastern Airlines), Guangzhou (China Southern Airlines) and Fuzhou (Xiamen Airlines) offering the other flights. Currently no US airline offers flights to China from this airport.
