Hainan Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on November 18. The twinjet was handed over by Boeing to the HNA Group unit and then ferried from Seattle Boeing Field to Haikou via Honolulu and Guam International.
The Chinese carrier announced that its first flight will be on November 25 on the Haikou-Beijing Capital route. The 737 MAX 8 has a two-class layout with eight seats in business class and 168 in economy.
Hainan Airlines expects another aircraft of the type by the end of November. It is going to use the aircraft on its major domestic routes, that include Beijing, Shanghai Pudong, Wuhan, Xi’an Xianyang, Nanning, and Chongqing.
The airline plans to have a fleet comprising of up to twenty MAX 8s by the end of 2019.
