Madrid-based Iberia has announced its plans to start the first intercontinental service to Managua next fall. This new long-haul destination is part of the airline’s route network expansion plans.

The route to the Nicaraguan capital starts from Madrid via Guatemala city to Managua and then back to Madrid. The service will be launched in October 2018 and should be three times per week.

This is Managua’s first scheduled intercontinental service and will continue to be complemented by Iberia’s existing codeshare arrangements with Avianca (AV, Bogota).  The new route is part of the airline’s restructuring plan, which also envisages a new seasonal service from Madrid to San Francisco, CA three times weekly as of April 2018 and increased capacity on the services from Madrid to Tokyo Narita and Tel Aviv Ben Gurion.
