Lufthansa Cargo plans to add two Boeing 777F freighters to its fleet. Per data available in mba’s REDBOOK, the company already flies seven aircraft of that model. In tandem with these expected deliveries, it will retire all ten of its MD-11 freighter aircraft before 2021.
“We are investing in maximum reliability and significantly lower emissions… The modernization of our fleet is the biggest contribution we can make to the future in the short term. We combine responsibility for our company with corporate responsibility.”Peter Gerber, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo
Even though the retirements will reduce the size of its cargo-dedicated fleet, Lufthansa expects no detriment to its freight division’s performance after completing this transition. The 777F offers a larger capacity and longer range than the MD-11, compensating for the smaller overall fleet size.
