Lufthansa began a five-times weekly service between Berlin Tegel (TXL) and New York JFK as of November 8. The carrier will perform the long-haul flight every day of the week, except on Fridays and Sundays.

Harry Hohmeister, Member of the Executive Board of Lufthansa, was glad t announce the new route after a break of 16 years. The German carrier started offering a direct flight between Berlin and Washington, which was unfortunately suspended after six months due to the 9/11 terrorist attack in the US.

Hohmeister described the new service as a premium connection to New York and a commitment on behalf of the airline. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO of Berlin Brandenburg Airport added that the flight between the German capital and the American metropolitan is something special and appreciated.

Lufthansa also started a three times weekly flights from Dusseldorf (DUS) to Miami (MIA) on the same day.

Both these destinations were previously serviced by insolvent airberlin. Currently, the Star Alliance carrier faces no direct competition for either of them.
