Melbourne Airport, the second largest airport in Australia, published a report on its passenger traffic for its fiscal year ending on June 30th, 2019. The facility set a new full-year traffic record by hosting 37.3 million passengers. This constitutes a 2% increase from the prior fiscal year. Notably, traffic on international routes grew by 5.3%.
In the last year, the airport has bolstered Melbourne’s links to the Pacific region. Cebu Pacific and Air Vanuatu began operations, and new nonstop flights to San Francisco and Port Vila, Vanuatu will launch soon. According to Lyell Strambi, the airport’s chief executive officer, demand for air links to Canada, India, and the Philippines will foster additional growth.
