Nigeria has previously shared information regarding the potential of setting up a new national airline and negotiations have already begun with potential investors in the business development process and manufacturers for the provision of aircraft.
Qatar Airways is known to be the dominant investor in the new company, which is expected to commence in late December 2018.
The manufacturer most likely to become the supplier of the fleet is Airbus. They are in ongoing talks with a lessor who will provide the aircraft on lease through the manufacturer, if Airbus is selected. Negotiations also took place with Boeing, the manufacturer who is more established in the West and Central African region.
While the final decision is in progress, Qatar Airways will wet lease part of its long-haul fleet to the new airline. The funds required for the set up of the company are potentially going to be obtained through external financing from international banks.
