Qatar Airways received certification for its environmental management system, and became the first Middle East carrier to get accreditation to the highest level of the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Environmental Assessment program (IEnvA).  

Qatar Airways is the fifth airline worldwide to achieve IEnvA Stage 2. 

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, was presented with the IEnvA Stage 2 certificate by Mr. Alexandre de Juniac, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of IATA. This was done at the H.E. Mr. Al Baker’s inaugural meeting as the new Chair-Elect of IATA’s Board of Governors in Geneva on 01 December 2017. 

H.E. Mr. Al Baker expressed his satisfaction of the certificate upon receiving it. He also pointed out the great progress Qatar Airways has made as a carrier in the last two years, and expressed their commitment to IATA’s environmental programs. 

Mr. Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer, congratulated the airline for the success and thanked them for their leading environmental performance.  

Qatar Airways environmental management system includes initiatives such as weight reduction, route optimization, and aircraft performance to achieve fuel reduction and CO2 emissions.
