Aircraft leasing company SMBC Aviation Capital published its annual report for its financial year which ended on March 31, 2019. Its gross operating income topped $1.1 billion USD, leading to a pre-tax profit of $344 million. This was around 8% higher than its 2017-2018 profit, setting a new company record.
According to chief executive officer Peter Barrett, the company is pleased by its strong performance; it aims to expand its fleet to build upon this growth. To that end, in December it placed an order with Airbus for 65 aircraft in the A320neo family, for delivery in about four to six years.
At present, the company’s fleet entails 265 owned aircraft and 160 managed aircraft.
